Methodology

The data presented uses the NACE 2.0 classification defined by Eurostat and used by every statistical offices in Europe to classify all activities. The data gathering work consisted mainly in collecting information from Eurostat, National Statistical Institutes, OECD and ILO using always the same classification.
The second step of the methodology consisted in selected the activities that matched the definition of Public Services using a conservative approach. Only the sectors we were sure about were included. This included a minimum set of data where some sectors such as social housing were excluded.
The third step consisted in collecting information on the selected indicators:
  • Employment
  • Employment by age
  • Employment by gender
  • Employment by qualification
  • Employment by size of enterprise
  • Investment
  • Value-added
  • Number of enterprise
  • Retirement age
